On the 25th of August, music lovers will converge to the Middenvijver site, a stone’s throw from Antwerp’s city center, to discover the wide spectrum of electronic music varying from techno and house to ambient and future jazz during Ampere Open Air.
The Vision arrive with their first original output, where the Bristol-Boston collab deliver a soulful dose of house goodness. The release from genre defying musician Ben Westbeech and crate digger royalty KON also features Ben’s long-time collaborator Andreya Triana, whose powerhouse vocals you may recognise from Breach’s Everything You Never Had (We Had It All).
Lyric (Lyric Hood) delivers her debut solo release for M-Plant this summer. Having joined her father, Robert Hood to become an integral part of Floorplan both on the road and in the studio a few years ago, the two have collaborated on the Victorious album and all consequent Floorplan releases so it was only a matter of time before she was ready to step into the solitary spotlight.
Lilium is released a year on from DJ Seinfeld’s 2018 DJ KiCKS! entry, and is something of a curveball. As with all of Jakobsson’s music, it’s honest and emotive, but the sun kissed house and italo of Lilium and Lovejoy is full of happiness and optimism, in contrast to the normally melancholic mood of his productions.
Electronic veteran Paul Kalkbrenner has released his first original music since dropping his eighth album, Parts of Life, in 2018. Entitled No Goodbye, it’s an intriguing new foray for the Berlin artist as a new take on where the underground and the burgeoning popularity of vocal, melodic progressive connect.
